White Snakestone Tam O'Shanter

Original NOS from the Water of Ayr & Tam O'Shanter Hone Works in Stair, Scotland

The mine has been in operation since the end of the 18th century and has been owned by the Montgomerie family for over 100 years. The stones offered here are old stock from the Montgomerie estate.

While the normal, grey Tam O'Shanter or snake stone, as it is otherwise known, has a grain size of approx. 5-8K, compared to artificial stones, the white Tam O'Shanter is finer (approx. 7-9K) and can be used as a prefinisher for razors.
