Artaunon Whetstone

Artaunon Whetstone

This special stones have already been used as whetstones in former times, but because of its extreme hardness they have been replaced by softer natural stones and artificial hones and fell into oblivion. The stone exists of so-called Taunus quartzite of special quality. This sedimentary quartzite contains more than 80% quartz and has a hardness of 7 according to Mohs. This is little less than carborundum (Mohs 9) and diamond (10).

The stones are very fast if used with slurry. At the same time these are also very fine stones that generate a very sharp edge. Slurry can only be raised successful with diamond carts (300 – 400). The stones can be used very easily as a complete stone for the razor honing, beginning with bevel setting an also honing out of defects in the blade - through the whole progression which is done according to the dilucot method. The endfinishing is done with water only or also with oil, which gives an even finer edge.

A very gentle and pleasant edge can be generated if finally thuringian slurry is raised on the Artaunon whetstone with a Thuringian slurry stone.

For introducing these stones I add a thuringian slurry stone to every sold Artaunon whetstone!
