The Heljestrand company was founded in 1808 by the engraver Johan Olof Heljestrand (1781 - 1837). He was born in the parish of Helgesta 200 km south of Stockholm, which is the origin of the surname Heljestrand. In 1822 the Heljestrand Factory already had an important production of razors, scissors and surgical instruments. After Olof Heljestrand death, his oldest son Nils Fredrik Heljestrand took over, followed by his younger brother Carl Viktor Heljestrand (1819-1861) In 1846, who gives the name to the company C.V. Heljestrand.
Carl Viktor travelled to England and opened his own workshop for fine metalwork in Sheffield in 1845 - running this business during many years. Back in Eskilstuna he manufactured best quality products based on the knowledge he acquired in Sheffield. He died only 42 years old. The company remained in family ownership all trough the 19th - and first half of the 20th century. 1979 C.V. Heljestrand went bankrupt.
